What is a Shape Shifter Fitness routine? Why should I learn the art of fitness that is Shape Shifter fitness? For many people fitness and exercise can be a source of frustration, especially in this day and age with so much critical mass on negativity out there and a marketplace that just sends mixed messages to vulnerable people, who are really just being misinformed about how some quick fix will get them in the best shape of their life. I have been a certified fitness trainer for a long time and I started Shape Shifter Fitness back in 2004 to help people. I founded this special training methodology over time to help people build strength, endurance, flexibility, fluidity, grace and poise. It is a great blueprint of success if you will, to a healthy body, and also really to an exciting active fitness lifestyle. Let me start at the beginning, to tell you the story of Shape Shifter Fitness.

I got my start in fitness really with martial arts. As a young boy on Saturdays I used to watch Kung Fu theatre. I was simply amazed at the movement’s these guys would perform on screen. I learned later in life that most of the moves were really not possible. No one was really able to jump ten feet up on a rooftop. However the fascination remained and I read and got my hands on all the information I could about martial arts. I eventually studied a style called Chung Moo Doe at the time, it has since changed it’s name, but it was comprised of eight different martial arts taught as one. Hapkido, Aikido, Tai Chi, Bagwa, Kong Su, Gung Bu, Ship Pal Gae, and Udo. Even after all this time I still remember them. Anyway this eventually led me down the path of mixed martial arts to the father of mixed martial arts the legendary Mr. Bruce Lee. Of course I never met him as I was to young, and I only saw him in his movies, but I read his books and I understood his philosophy, and it all made perfect sense to me.

Bruce Lee’s style was the art of no style. You see his training was all about taking everything that was practical and efficient and worked, and getting rid of the boring repetition, and the things that were not effective. His brilliant insight’s explained to us that we were the one’s putting self imposed limitations on ourselves because of either our belief systems or the way we were taught that our way was the only one way and was the best way.

So I simply took the philosophy of Mr. Lee and tried to emulate that with my client’s to make them understand how the diversification and randomness can transform their bodies and the art of Shape Shifter Fitness was born. The best thing about learning Shape Shifter Fitness is that when you do, you will learn there is actually nothing routine about it. You will be able to exercise anywhere with little or even no equipment, and you will gain optimal health. I encourage you to take more time to learn the art of Shape Shifter Fitness.

Anyway now I will move on to what I promised you which is an actual Shape Shifter routine. just understand that the beauty of this is also that it can be modified for any fitness level. An expert athlete will be doing different exercises then someone over weight and sedentary of course, but the fundamentals are still the same. As always please consult with your doctor before you start to learn Shape Shifter Fitness or do any exercise program to make sure you are healthy enough for the activity. Anyway here we go.

This will be a Shape Shifter Routine for myself with no equipment it will be done with little rest in between the exercise and take 30 minutes to complete. I will begin with a quick warn up of my legs  by doing 20 light squat jumps and 20 jumping jacks.

Alternating jumping lunges – 20

Jump Squats – 20

Side Lunges Isometric hold 60 seconds each leg

Explosive push ups 40

V ups 50

Diamond push ups 35

Front leg kicks 20 each leg

Spider man push ups 20

Squat Isometric hold 1 minute

50 sit ups

Downward Dog hold then ham string stretch, shoulder stretch, quads and chest and lower back all done in 30 minutes. This particular Shape Shifter Routine had a high emphasis on functional training. For strength training I do use weight’s in and out of the gym. What you want is a good combination of strength, endurance and flexibility first. Unless you are sport specific training. After you have that speed, agility, and coordination or as I say fluidity, grace and poise will come. Anyway I hope you enjoyed the post and please as always, I am here to answer any fitness questions.

Yours in health,

Thomas George, CFT
